Re: 10" rallye rims... worth the difference? (phoenix)
I started with 295/50/15s on the original 8" rallys. This is ok for normal tooling around but when driven agressively in curves the rear is mushy as hell. I bought 10" rallys and there is an improvement but the tires still roll over on their sidewalls real bad.
The problem is that there may not be a decient 295 tire. I am running BFGs now but the sidewalls are paper thin and not made for cornering at all. I swear i will not buy TA radials again.
I have come to the conclusion that all 15" tires are still 60s technology and worthless for performance driving. Unfortunately various racing clubs consider you in a modified class when you upgrade to 16 or 17 rims.

I'm deployed but one of the recent Corvette Fever Mags had a great article about wheel/tire upgrades. Check out http://www.newstalgiawheel.com for deals on Wheel Vintiques 17 inch ralleys. They also sell a billet aluminum version that takes your center caps. 255/50ZR17 is the size you want for your new tires...
