Cleaning aluminum intakes
She's got 4500 miles on her and she's dirty :nono: :nonod: :nonod:
I can keep the valve covers clean. I can spit shine most of it but then there's that intake. Mine is not a polished one; it's natural finish. (Edlebrock Performer)
How do ya clean all them nooks and crannys by each bolt on the manifold?

Re: Cleaning aluminum intakes (Twin_Turbo)
Simple Green and a toothbrush? YOu mean I can use the same two tools under my hood that I use on my teeth? WOW :jester
As for the oven cleaner, yea I'm sure it would work but this is a new motor and its not THAAAAT dirty. And on my Nova I remember using a pressure washer on that intake. Wow what a mess! Took longer to clean myself and the car up afterwards than it was worth!
with the oven cleaner, wouldn't you be risking a chance of damaging fiberglass if you get it on it? Even if you are careful, you still gotta factor in the oops factor...
don't know, my paint was crap anyway and whenever I did something like that I made sure I had everything covered up just fine. Brake cleaner WILL mess up your paint (and windscreen too), oven cleaner most likely will not damage the paint.
Years ago I used a syphon air gun/nozzle with solvent or detergent solution, depending on what I was cleaning. Used it on military helicopters to get to hard to access areas for cleaning. Didn't use a Lot of presure, just enough to work with the cleaning solustions. Not near as messy as the presure washer. should work well on the light oil/dirt films. Be sure that the solution is clean. Any dirt in the solution will act like a blast media. (sandblast)

Re: Cleaning aluminum intakes (Aflac)
i like the concept of the simple green better... call me chicken *looks over shoulder and sees feathers poppin out...
I tried some Simple Green on a remote control car chassis (recommended by the car company) to remove caked on dirt and nitro / alcohol fuel.
It removed everything alright !! Including the blue anodizing from the aluminum chassis !! I don't know if that was a manufacture f' up or not but I don't use simple green around anodized parts now. I did get a new chassis from the company and it came packaged with a note saying "don't use Simple Green! Use WD-40."
Also, back when Castrol came out with that purple spray Super Clean stuff I made the mistake of using that on a motor cycle.
It fogged the clear coat on the wheels, turned the aluminum engine covers white and washed the paint right off the fuel tank  Stay away from that crap !
