ENOUGH! freakin' time on these plug wires
As per the other thread, it was suggested to assemble the wires with dish soap and needle nose pliers. I did that. Last straw!
For those who did not see the other thread, I bought Taylor bright orange wires, custom fit. The pinch fit spark plug ends are on, and you run them however you want, and then put on the distributor end connector and boot. The set comes with connectors for both 55-74 distributors and then also the HEI style boots and connectors from 75 on up.
I wrote the other thread saying that no matter how many ways I tried, the distributor end was not able to be assembled. Man, them boots are tight!
Today I used dish soap and needle nosed plyers to insert the already crimped connector into the boot. And as I was withdrawing the needlnose plyers, a couple of the wires came out of the crimp and needed to be redone. So after spending all day yesterday (at least the afternoon) routing the wires the way I wanted them, and making things just the proper length and not being able to assemble them, ... today I spent another two hours on them after getting suggestions from the forum.
I started her up. I was all excited and stereophonically amplified! It sounded good while the choke was on at least. When it warmed up the miss was obvious. At least one of those wires had pulled thru with the plyers. I grabbed each wire individually while grounding myself. Several of them shocked the hell outta me with the voltage of the Accel super coil.
I'm gonna buy a set of pre made wires for a small block and toss these Taylors. I have so much time invested in them, they cost me hundreds of dollars. And I still cannot drive the car!
:smash: :mad
Anyone got a part number for a good set of wires? Complete? I don't want OEM style that runs under the motor mount .... just good SBC wires.

I feel your pain, took me about 4 hours to run, cut and install my Mallory's. I'd keep messing with the wires until I got them to work. Hopefully, someone will chime in concerning other aftermarket wires that have made specifically for C3's and fitted.

I bought MSN 8.5, my mechanic lives right down the street. I go paint a house,(what I do best) on the week end and pay him to put them on. Saves me time and I have more $$$$ to spend on the engine rebuild.

Just replaced a custom cut set over the weekend on my other toy with a set of Magnecor wires. Huge difference - no more rough idle, no more stumbles, etc. Found them on line at a discount from a guy in Calif.

I just got an email response back from Taylor. They said specifically to put the boot on first then pull the wire thru. The guy who sent that must have no idea how tight that boot is. I am tempted to go 'in again' and try to armwrestle them but I've got so much time invested in them it's not funny. The time involved in putting these wires together is more so far, than it took me to pull the OEM motor out a few months ago! :mad
Re: ENOUGH! freakin' time on these plug wires (SanDiegoPaul)
I squirt the inside of the boot with some WD-40 and pull the wire thru. Then I crimp on the end and slide the boot over the brass end. Sometimes I have to use a little more WD-40 inside the boot but it ALWAYS works. Nice thing about WD-40 is that it's electrical friendly and evaporates after a short time.

Re: ENOUGH! freakin' time on these plug wires (MasterDave)
That's what I tried the SECOND time. I went out and bought a can of WD40 and used it liberally. Still, half the wires pulled out of the crimp while trying to force the thing back in :mad These boots are TIGHT! I may try a different boot and see what happens. I have them routed sooooo well and the color looks sooooo good I really do want them to work. For me though it is the time thing as much as the frustration.
