I heard about a 1981 Vette for sale. Its two tone blue/silver 190 hp V8. auto
It has 45k miles. Its an original owner car. From what Ive been reading
the 1981 scares me a little. Its the first year for the computer, last from the carb. and the 190 hp. and 13mpg with 8.9 0-60 times dont sound to impressive. If I get this car would it more than likely break down a lot and
how would the paint hold up? I dont want to have the vette in the shop all the time and Im not a mechanic. Maybe I should just get a 1992.
Any thoughts or advice guys???? :flag
You only want the car if you have a real passion for it. Otherwise, forget it. Any older car is going to require a certain amount of maintenance. And if it goes from being someone's toy to a daily driver, the process is accelerated. It really helps if you are mechanically inclined, or at least have a friendly neighbor who knows these cars.
The 1981 does indeed have some funky single-year stuff on it. But it can also be removed and put in a box -- if your region does not have emissions testing. Then you can bolt on a more straightforward carb and distributor...
