so, after 2 years, i am supposedly gettin my vette from the shop tomorrow. (long story) the problem is, i dont know if we will be able to afford the final bill, i say this, because had the guy gotten the car done when he was supposed to (aka when we had the money for it) everything would be fine. now i dont know. it kinda depends on what the final bill is (i dont know it yet) but what to do in the worst case scenario that we cant afford it?
anyone have ideas (yeah i know im going to get a lot of :skep: from this)
Sounds like you are expecting the worse. It's a little difficult without knowing the details how you could not know what it's going to cost or even why it's taken so long. But, without delving in too deep, if the work is done to your satisfaction, and the price is reasonable, if you don't have the dough perhaps you could work out some type of payment plan being they have had the car so long and apparently were suppose to be done so long ago.
Next to that, can't help you. There are always home equity loans, remortgage if you own a home that is (rates are great here right now, just did a 5.5 for 15 deal). Or you could rent the wife out if married (just kidding!).
I missed this story. What took 2 years at a shop to do? Your options? You know better than we do. Do you want to keep it? Take out a loan or borrow the money from a family member(friend) if so is the first choice of course.
Divy up some more information on your quandry and maybe there's a solution.
I was doing business with a guy that would never tell me the final bill until I got to his shop to pick the car up...he was a jerk! He had a '70 coupe in there that he had been "working" on for ~3 years...not much "work" going on IMO.
Anyway, I would think that considerign the untimliness of the mechanic and/or shop owner they should be willing to work something out with you.
well the latest update is that i was supposed to get my car at 6 today......it being 7 now, and you havent all been flogged with millions of pics of the finished car, you can probably guess a bout the car's current whereabouts.
hopefully we can get some sort of payment plan worked out, if it comes to that. i just really want my car. 2 years is too long. it would be one thing if i was doing the work, but the stuff he's doing is beyond my capability.
i'll let you know what happens in the next few days  and thanks for the ideas
