I just installed the back up light switch in my '68 on the transmisison (it had been missing for many years). The pigtail coming off of the switch is pink and light green. I know it connects somewhere into in the dash harness (at least I think so) but I need to know the color of the wires on the dash harness to which it connects. The wiring diagram in the shop manual is not so clear to me on this issue. Can anyone help? Thanks.
The connection is in the engine compartment, not under the dash. There should be a pink/green pigtail and connector under the master cylinder where the engine wiring harness is routed. Hopefully, it is there and someone hasn't pulled it back inside the car (or cut it off altogether).
My car never had any of it either, switch, bracket, etc. I just mounted it all on the tranny as well. Since I dont have the body on I havent looked for the attaching harness as of yet. most of it is very affordable the switch is the most expensive of it all at 55.00.
Well, I looked last night and couldn't find it. I'll have to go under the dash to try and locate a loose batwing connector with pink and green wires going into it. The AIM indicates it should be coming out of the firewall in the same spot as the tach cable but mine is missing in action. I'll let you know what I find. BTW, I paid around $50 for the switch plus more for all the other items such as the bracket, shield, rod connector, etc.
Well, I found the lead. The previous owner must have disconnected it and pulled it back through the firewall and under the dash. It was tucked up behind the radio. It took me approx. 30 minutes of looking to find it. Thanks for all your help on this one. Knowing the color of the wires to look for was key.
