Default Weatherstrip Solution

I replaced all the weatherstripping on my 1980, using the $200 stuff not the $500 stuff, and was prepared to wait weeks or months while the windows learned to fit just right. The other day I was in the NAPA auto parts store and saw a NAPA product called Sil-Glyde Lubricating Compound. It is their part number 765-1351.

Before putting the Sil-Glyde on the weatherstripping, the windows would not seal just right because they would not go up that last little bit. I have power windows. I would describe it the same as I have seen others describe it, the fit was just too tight. I put the compound on, a little to liberally, and the result was instant closure and a perfect seal. Took her out on the freeway and no wind noise at all.

Best part of the story is the 4 ounce tube was $3.99. GM has a product called Silicone Emulsion that does and is the same thing for the same price. I have not tried that product but I have read other posts that recommeneded it also. I am not sure if these products "soften" the weatherstripping. What these products do is eliminates friction between two different materials.

Hope this helps others as much as it helped me.
