I went to Milan Dragway with a few buddies last night. It was my first time ever at a drag strip and my best time was the second run. The two after that were similar, but just barely slower. (14.829 @ 95.94 and 14.813 @ 95.12) 60' times were all 2.24 to 2.36.
Next time I'll play more with my launch to get that down some more. Those Radial T/As don't hook up, they just squeal as they spin thru first gear. With 96mph, what should I expect to do if I find traction? How much hp should that translate to?
Nothing really wrong with that time. I personally wouldn't bother trying to make that engine fast, I'd just rebuild another small block with some power and change them. Which is my plan for next year...
Chris,
It was a spur of the moment thing with my Mustang buddies. Test & Tune night. There was a bunch of pro-street Camaros and Chevelles running 10s and a couple of snowmobiles in the low 11s!!! Only one other Vette... yellow C5 convertible. I dunno what he was running.
We'll probably end up going out there a couple more times this summer.... you can bring the TA if the vette isn't back up yet. Someone needs to :smash: on those Mustangs.
I believe you have a Muncie 4 speed, don't you? At least that's what your home page says. It's tough to get off the line with a *stick* without spinning the tires or just leaving too much on the table by easing into it. It's an *art* in fact to take any car on street tires and get any kind of 60' time with a 4-speed and that's where you are losing all of your E.T. If you are going to add more horsepower consider getting some kind of drag tire and do a burnout before you launch. The automatics with the same HP are gonna eat your lunch as they can load up on the stall converter and power brake(or transbrake) off the line to get the 60ft times down. 4 speeds are a trip on the streets, but no one with any aspirations of doing any kind of consistent drag racing goes stick.
Thanks for the encouragement. I'm more of a road course kind of guy though. This was just something to get out for some fun with the guys and see what it would do. I have no asperations of changing things around or buying any parts just to lower my et. Now bolting on a set of BFG R1s and ripping up the corners at Watkins Glen.... I'm there. (July 2nd and 3rd)
BTW, the MPH to HP calculator says that my 96mph equates to 235 rwhp. Woohoo. That's ~280 at the flywheel. (Actually, that's probably more than the car had in 1970.) Anyone know what a base motor 4-speed ran in the 1/4 in '70?
According to this: http://www.corvettepictures.com/1969musclecars.htm
in '69 the ET was only 16.10, but that seems pretty slow. They don't have a 1970 listed. On my '72 I thought I read somewhere it was 14.7 and my car didn't have any problem running that with only headers and a small cam upgrade.
