First of all welcome to the forum. For your carb, you may want to contact Lars on this forum, he is the expert on the Q-Jet carbs. Does a great job of rebuilding your Q-jet. There are many people here on this forum that have had Lars do their rebuild. Lars E-Mail is V8FastCars@msn.com.
I appreciate you're kind welcome and recommendation. My problem is that the original carb is not on the car. I have one dated in 89 on my 72. The carb on my car needs a rebuild but I would rather have a 72 rebuilt carb. Gracias anyway. Larry.
Larry,
Finding the original can be tough. I've been looking for one for my 69 for a while. I've found a few but the prices are up there. Ebay is a good place to start if you know the number carb your looking for. You can use this link to get the number. Good luck. http://www.blake.com/oemcarbs/chevy3.htm

The carb number is available in the NCRS judging guide. I don't have one for a '72 but I am sure someone can look it up. After owning my car for twenty years, I only recently discovered that my carburetor is from a '69 350/350 (after buying the NCRS judging guide). I have not researched, though, getting an original dated carburetor for my '68 427/390 but I would be willing to sell the '69 if anyone is interested.
Black69 gave you a great website for checking carb #s. (My favorite)
You will see that the original carb# for a 72 base engine vette is 7042203 (if you have a 4spd) or 7042202 (if you have an automatic). These carbs were also used on other 1972 Chevys (Camarao, Monte carlo, Chevy II) so they might not be all that rare. If you care about the "correct date" you will have to find one that is dated earlier than the build date of your vette. Good luck in your search! :) MJ
