THe vette sat all winter with a half of tank of fuel .On first outing car ran fine for 30 minutes then started nosediving like it was starving for fuel then would pick back up .Brought it home and checked all obvious .Set timing dwell and changed fuel filter.Fuel is now clear in filter [inline] but after driving today about 10 miles same scenario. Many thoughts are running through my head but i thought i would pick yours .By the waystill has a quarter tank of old fuel in car .i know iknow trying to burn it out but untill resolved do not want to be stranded on side of road .Your comments are welcome Thanks ahead of time
Would fill it up with some high octane gas or some gas stabaliser. I would drive it close to home to get some run time on it. Swap out the fuel filter while your at it.
I have seen this problem before on an HEI equiped car. After 10-20 miles the car would begin to sputter than die. When it cooled off, it was fine again.
(considering that you have an HEI)
The pickup coil in the dist was bad. Also change the module & kept the old for a spare.

Re: Still not running great part 2 (hiyosilver)
Get rid of that bad gas. Drain that tank by siphon at least. Run Gummout or the generic in fuel to clean carb. Last resort rebuild carb. A good spare carb is a nice tool for comparisions. Rebuilds are as low as $200. :seeya
i've had gas sit for a full year and it is ok. maybe a few less octane, but i don't need to drain it.
More than 2 months and any carb will dry out leaving varnish flakes to clog it up.
Add 5 gallons of hi-test.
clean carb or swap it out.(crank a pint thru the line and throw away) :smash: :seeya
