Hey guys, I know its been a while and I was suposed to do updates as I go along but I've been SOOO busy lately. Heck, I only got a few hours here and there to work on it. I've got one side almost done (waiting on a few spacers and got 1 weld left to do). After putting it temporarily into place, I can see some minor problems but I think I can fix something up. Here is a link to 2 pictures I took:
Tell me if that doesn't work... its the first time I use yahoo as my other free host pops and installs way too much crap on your computer. You won't be able to see the full size pics cause yahoo doesn't allow it to free users. :nonod: Soooo, if someone would be kind enough to host them for me, give me your email and I'll send em along. Thx.
I will be doing a small video later on when that side is finished. I can easily move it up and down with a jack so that'll give u guys an idea.
Looking very good. So will we be getting a parts list and detailed plans for this puppy when you are all done? :D I'd love to do more of these kinds of upgrades, but the $2K cost is more than I can swing...
Looks good, but I think the swing arm links are a little short. Hey, I'm no engineer, I could be wrong
Yeah, if I would do it again, I'd find a way to make them longer. But its just a small advantage... it only makes the wheel travel less back and forth when the suspension goes up and down. I based myself on the greenwood setup that used short links like that cause when I started I didn't have enough info on the gulstrand setup to mimick it. But now that I'm done (the other side is just a mirror copy), I can say I could've done a copy of the gulstrand one based on the picture I had at that time. But anyway, I'm really happy with the result and I just mesured the wheel movement as it travels up and down and its 1/4" which isn't a problem.

Yeah. This side I trial fited and was making it up as I was going along but when I start working on the other side, I'll write the measurements down for you guys. I even thought about making a kit. If I could get enough people I could probably get the brackets laser cut and mig welded for a very reasonable price. Besides, so far, it only cost me 100$. Everything else I did myself and steel is practically free. I'm sure I could make a kit for under 500$. The only problem is that I'm on a very tight schedule. I'm going into the army in a month and I'd prefer to road test this before selling it. I don't think my car will be road ready in less than a month... :nonod:

Lol thought someone would ask. :D I didn't want to cut up my trailing arms in case this thing wouldn't work so I made my own. Its simply a 3"x6" rectangular tube with holes in it and brackets welded to it. Oh and I made my setup so it could clear larger tires. I gained 1.5" compared to stock.
We definitely need the measurements before you ship out. I could duplicate your work in my shop for little or no dollars for my personal car. I'd much rather do this than go the offset trailing arm route.
Please share with us when you have all the dimensions.
PLEASE PLEASE give full detail to the process of building these. Seems like a great buildup, and I would love to get my hands one a setup like that. But like others have said, 2k for a pre set one is way too much. If someone can fabricate this I will pay!! I am not sure I could tackle something like that.
Looks great, Give us all the details when you are done so we can do it. I just finished sand blasting the frame this weekend so I'm in the prime situation to complete this job.
Ok... I worked a bit on it today and got some details worked out. I was getting some toe change so I fixed that by changing a bracket. I have no caster change so thats ok and I still have some camber change. I don't think I can fix that unless I put another link on top like the 6-link guys did. I previously thought that the back link (which controls toe) would help with the camber change but it doesn't. I can't move the attachment point on the t-arm either so the only solution would be to add another link... which I won't do for now. I should be done this week... so if anyone wants to volunteer to host a small video, please email me.
Would you mind sending those photos to my email. I was interested in seeing a little more detail on what you did. The small photos don't quite show enough.
Actually I made it so I could use my current shocks and spring cause I just don't have the money for good coil-overs. I will modify it later on to accept that.

Actually that seems like a really good solution anyhow. I'm not convinced that there is a huge advantage to coilovers, but then again, I'm no expert... Certainly it helps keep the system within a tight budget keeping the stock setup...
