Default Head stamp numbers?

My fiance cleaned the engine up tonight (what a sweetheart) and we found that the block is blue and the heads and intake are orange. This leads me to believe that the heads and intake were replaced at one point.

Where are the heads stamped and do I have to take the heads or intake off to see it? I would like to know if these are the original heads, and if not, what they are.

Hey Mark,
The heads aren't actually stamped, they have a casting number under the valve cover between the valve springs. Should be 7 digits. Also an alpha-numeric date code between the valve springs too. If you can post these numbers, I'd be glad to tell you what they came off originally. The intake also has an alpha-numeric date code and cast number. For '78 these parts should've been blue.

p.s. I've cruised Jasper Ave. before!

Thanks Greg
Here are the numbers I found:

Heads 3986336 K20 A/07
Intake 458520

PS I have lived here for a year, and I haven't cruised Jasper yet, I have never had a plate on my car. :(

HEADS 1971......350..........76cc chamber

intake is from 76-82 for all chevy applications

This is what I've found but it's not definitive, meaning that I could only find the info from one source......maybe someone else will chime in

Thanks standup

Are these comparable to the L82 heads? Any idea on the intake/exhaust sizes?

Since they are not original, I guess I will get them ported and polished
