I was wondering, on a 69 vette, is there a difference between SB and BB steering systems, and how can I tell the difference. Also what would be a good used price? Thanks guys.
The steering gear, power steering pump, steering column, steering linkage, assist cylinder, cylinder line hoses, and the low pressure return hose are all the same.
There is a separate pressure hose (from the pump to the control valve) for the BB and for the SB.
Pump mounting brackets are unique for the BB and SB.
I am quite sure that the pump pulley is unique as well.
The BB pulley is cast iron, has two grooves and is used on pumps 1965 to 1974. The pump shaft is tapered with a woodruff key and nut to retain the pulley.
The SB pulley 1965 through 68 all 327 350 hp, w/o A/C; and all 69 through 74 350 w/o A/C; is cast iron but has a single groove. The pump shaft is tapered with a woodruff key and nut.
The other SB pulley is 1963 through 1968 all 327 except 350 hp, w/o A/C and all 1969 through 74 all 350 with A/C. The pulley is single grooved, stamped and takes a pump shaft that is tapered with a woodruff key and nut.
The last C3 pulley is 1975 through 82 all with interference fit pulley shaft. It is single groove and also stamped.
