I have a chrome 80 amp ext reg alt I used for about a week until I realized they gave me the wrong one, I even changed my plug. :bb If I can find it you can have it for $50 + shipping.
Fevre is offering a good deal!
Another option is to upgrade your existing alternator. Kits for General Motors, Delco-Remy 10-SI type Internal Regulator Alternatorhttp://www.alternatorparts.com/gm_al...grade_kits.htm
Upgrade to 105 amp for $35
First off, ditch the external regualtor, you can't find enough current in that system to ever keep your car happy....
second off, the internal regulated alternators are NOT all equal,....go off the shelf at say Auto Zone and buy a 17SI alternator...off say a '79 Caddy with electric windows in back....stay away--far away--from any later alternator..they may be the new CS style, and an inherant POS from the get go....
the 17SI is rated at about 108 amps from the factory, is slightly larger in diameter, but should fit your mechanical mounts no sweat....
the wiring is something else...you need do it correctly, but if you can compare diagrams and have any electrical smarts, you can do it easily...
I pulled it off on about 3-4 cars over the years...simple really, just can't remember every nuance and detail and don't want to mislead you into something RONG.....
$50 for a chrome alt is a great deal, but I'm not sure it would look right. I'm going for a close as possible (while still working well) to stock look. The only chrome I'll have are valve covers, air cleaner lid, and ignition sheilding.
But can you send me a picture anyway, it may still be the best option. The alt I have is old and dirty looking. It's gonna look really ugly next to all the new stuff.
I also like the idea of that upgrade kit. I'll give them a call tomorrow.
But the thing I like about chrome is that it's easier to keep clean.
