Taking suggestions for 72 Corvette Paint Color. HELP!

Re: Taking suggestions for 72 Corvette Paint Color. HELP! (LawN4cr10)
I remember trying to decide which color to paint the car. After seeing another car of the same color, my wife convinced me to go with the original factory color. I'm glad see did. "Steel Cities Grey" is a grey with a green metal flake in it. Looks pretty good in the sunlight.
Unless you hate your factory color, I don't think you can go to far wrong by going back to it.

Mine was silver orig,so i wanted to keep it close to that. I went with the newer Sebring Silver w/ a red pearl in the clear coat

Hey Tomi, that is really a sharp combo. Good to know I am not the only light pewter fan. Please post more pics if you have them.

GAwd Dang it, all this silver/Grey is just eating away at my favorite color that my vett was presently. it was black before, and I am getting ready to paint it again, and have been pretty much set on black, but who knows how good I did my body work till it's painted, black being the worst at hiding, then perhaps Pewter will hide better, and look sooooo goooood too.

Why Steel Cities Gray of course....it goes with almost any interior color.
But if it were me and I was restoring a car I would want to paint it it's orginal color.

OK! The first thing that I want to say is thanks to everyone for their responses. To answer some of the questions; the interior is black and the original paint was LeMans Blue. I know that I dont want the Blue. I was pretty sure that I was going to go with the Steel Cities Grey before I posted this topic, but now I am not sure of Steel Cities Grey or the Pewter?
Calling all owners of Steel Cities Grey and Pewter colored corvettes: Send me pics of your cars so that I can make my final decision!
Thanks again!

Well, tell you ONE thing, look at all the cars on the road out there, and find a silver that's a few years old without looking like crap....dare you....
same with any heavy silver looking color...blue, light blue....
for some reason clear coats have NEVER stayed good over silverish colors...sunlight just eats it up....yellows it out at MINIMUM....
IMO...a ONE step paint is best, and for that I would do a '70 Caddy GREEN....
or Burgundy....

Steel City Grey gets my vote, it looks so good. It is an unusual but original color, too. Modern BC/CC silvers with the micro flakes hold up much better than older ones. Look at a new caddy or lexus. You might be able to get that color tinted to match Steel City Grey. Joe

I like the way black looks, but I think it would be too hot in Houston. I kno it would be in FL. Lighter colors are easier to keep looking clean. Medium metalics show dirt, but look nice when they are clean. I like the color of my car! I like a lot of other colors too. I can understand your canumdrum.

When in doubt, allways go black! I would'nt have any other color.
Women love it and it allways has a mystery about it.
Mine is black with red interior

Back in my first years of wanting a Shark, I always wanted to chrome the entire car. Yes, the whole thing.
OK, I was like 9, didn't know Corvettes were made of fiberglass, and Back to the Future had that cool stainless steel DeLorean. I was... uninformed. :)
But, it has left me with a nice taste for a silver/pewter color.
Also, that grey on red interior is very nice. I'm not a fan of the red interiors, but that combo makes it look good.

Pewter - it's a '72 only color, and the rarest color that year. Plus it looks sharp - especially with a red interior.

I would go with the original color, but since you ruled that out, Steel Cities Grey is one of my all-time favorites.
