I found out today that my tach is not that accurate, no surprise. It bounces around quite a bit anyway. I took off hard in first gear shifted at about 6000 then it seemed like just a couple of seconds and booom, hit the rev limiter on the 6AL. At first I thought something was wrong and then I remembered , oh yeh its the MSD! After that I did some more running and I was watching the tach, at about 5800 or so the box does its job again. I have the 6000 chip in now, unfortuanetly it only came with a 6k and 7k. Can you buy other chips that would get me a few more rpms? Maybe a 6400k would be good, I just don't want it to go up too high, like 7k! Also changed oil today to Royal Purple, 15w-40. I don't know if its just my imagination or what but the motor seems to rev better?

You can buy the MSD pills (rev limiter chips) in just about any incremint you want. Check out a Jeg's catalog. The pill kit that you would want would be #121-8746 . It includes pills 6000, 6200, 6400, 6600 and 6800 RPMs . The price is $23.99  .
7000RPMs won't hurt your motor unless you are constantly missing shifts and hitting the rev limiter. I've had my motor up to 7000RPMs before. I've actually heard that Royal Purple picks you up a few horsepower. My buddies uncle actually dyno tested it on his 406 race motor. So the motor is running good for you I see :) .
The MSD chips come in 200 rpm incriments. Yes you can purchase any number of these. The yusually come with 5 chips in a bag. From say 6000 to 7000 in 200 rpm incriments.
Doh! Bence beat me to it
MSD also makes an adjustable rev control that plugs in just like the chip only it has a **** that you turn to select the rpm you want. I went this route so I can turn it down if someone else is driving the car or turn it up for me. I have the adjustment hidden away so only I know where it is. I can set myself at 6800 or someone else at 4800 with just a turn of the ****.
According to Crane on my cam it said that with the Powemax 296-2, crane lifters and Crane gold race rockers, they say max rpm's should be 6000. Seems kind of low, they also say valve float is at 6500. My friend who built the motor is very conservative and thats why he does not want me to spin it higher than 6k. Too bad, my motor is just starting to get wild at about 6000 then the party is over!
I didn't know you were using a hydraulic camshaft. I would definitely stay away from 7000RPM rev limiter bumps then. It should rev to 6500RPMs without any problems I would think?
