Default Do it yourself painting costs.

Starting with a chemically stripped 77 with minor body work completed, I've been buying all the required masking paper and tape, primer, spot putty, reducers, activators, cleaning solvents, paint, clear coat, flex agent, filters, mask cartridges, sand paper, etc. that I think will complete the job. (Car is primered, wet sanded and spot puttied so far.) My friend will do the painting. (No charge except for a huge favor in return.) All materials are DuPont. Going with the original color - dark red. Cost for materials - $920.

That is good to know. Where did you buy most of the materials? Is that your materials to date?

Bought everything at a local parts store, paid sales tax etc.
I don't think I will need anything else until I buff it out - and I am really looking forward to that day.

BK, What # clear are you going to use? Dupont's 72500S is their top of the line and is an awesome clear. Craig

That sounds pretty close to what I spent to do mine. I was just short of $1000 for PPG base/clear.

Ignoring tooling expenses, that total cost is consistent with what I used for my PPG paint project.

The tools made it significantly more expensive but one can never have enough tools. :D
