Default Power Window help

I have a 73 with power windows and I had to replace the doors. In doing so when I put the window back it sluggishly went up and down and can't make it up all the way on its own. I noticed a spring on the inside of the gear area that wasn't serving any purpose for there was no tension on it at all. Could this be the problem? HELP

Is the spring in one piece, or is it broken and therefore not assisting the motor in raising the window?
Your motor could also be tired.
Be very careful as this spring has lots of tension and the potential for injury.
I gutted both my doors on my 68 and disassembled and cleaned and regreased everything and the windows go up and down like new.
There is also the possibility that something is out of alignment and therefore is binding as you move up and down. That was the case on one of my doors as one of the attaching points to the window glass came loose and fell off causing the window to be slightly cocked rather than going up and down straight.
Study the assembly in an assembly manual or a Dr. Rebuild catalog so you get an idea of the relationship of the parts and how everything works and fits together.

As I recall, that spring is wound up when the window goes down. Therefore it assists the window motor in raising the window. You would only mess with this with the window fully up. The boss that the spring hooks to may be gone? Look at the other side to confirm how it attaches. On my car I had a flat spot on the regulator gear (what the motor gear mates to in order to raise/lower the window). I bought the $40 replacement SS gear kit from CC and installed it. Problem solved! However, this required me to take that regulator out to do the repair. Heavy spring - easy to chop off your hand with an unencumbered regulator if you're stupid. Read up on it before attacking this one.

Zip has the instructions for doing a rebuild. I have then at my web site plusa couple of necessary parts that they overlooked. http://home.attbi.com/~jchadwick/win...or_rebuild.htm
