I had posted a thread about this rusty 73 i was going to restore a couple weeks ago. My customer has decided to break out the check book and bring it back to life. I am going to pass it off to someone else as i am no longer taking on major restoration projects like this one. I am however going to do the interior resto. The frame and windshield pillars can be someone elses headache! :U
Re: The corvetteworks project from hell 73 (sdixon)
That sounds like a good plan. Leave the hard work for someone else. It's good to see that the car will get a second life. It's in quite a few pieces, eh?
Re: The corvetteworks project from hell 73 (burners)
IT has been sitting since around 1978. It was stolen, and then paid off by the insurance. Well somehow, some way it was found abandoned several years later. I question the story, but that is what i was told. Anyway, they cleaned out the whole interior including carpet, the engine, trans, and headlights. All that garbage interior was bought on ebay. Someone really took him on that stuff. I couldnt find one useful part. Well, i suppose the seats could be recovered. Anyway this is how i found it. The windshield frame is toast, and the frame is ready for that junkyard in the sky.
Here is what you do: There seem to be a lot of very nice, original reasonably priced 73s around. Just pick up a nice specimen, paint it to his spec, polish it up, and tell him it's his car!!! He won't know the difference and it should save about $20k!!!! :) MJ
Re: The corvetteworks project from hell 73 (sdixon)
I'd love to find that "abandoned"... it would turn into the baddest racer with just one seat and a big block (is there really anything else in life?) then I could have the street 73 and the track 73....
Re: The corvetteworks project from hell 73 (sdixon)
My '73 was in pretty rough shape when I bought it. The frame was good though, I guess that can be the major deciding factor in whether to take on a project or not.
Re: The corvetteworks project from hell 73 (sdixon)
Scott,
Where was the car before (last 3-4 yrs.)? I swear it's identical to one that was in my neighborhood(59/ Van **** area) for the last few years and never moved.

I've seen a couple around the Utica/Shelby area that are in need of rescuing.
Re: The corvetteworks project from hell 73 (sdixon)
Check the aluminum wheels on the 73, only four sets were ever reported installed from the factory. That would be a kick in the old tailpipe if they were original ...... :flag
Re: The corvetteworks project from hell 73 (C3 Shark Tank)
Apparently, there's still a black 73 that needs rescued...There's also a brown 74ish, with aftermarket wheels that looks like it just needs the tires pumped up and a late 80's white C4 covertible that just seem to sit and never move.
