Default 350 rubber motor mount problems

I have spent the last two days attempting to pass the bolts through the new rubber motor mounts and frame with no luck. I am able to push the drivers side bolt through to the point where it is just barely stuck at the opening of the frame mount. The passenger side mount hole is offset from the frame bolt hole quite a bit. I have loosened the mounts on both sides of the block to better enable "manipulation", have used a 2 x 4 on the balancer to try and persuade the block for proper orientation. Nothing works. I am about to raise the block and pull the damn things out.

Anyone have any suggestions before I pull it?

Thanks

Try 2x4 under length of pan and adusting tiny little increments up or down to see if bolts get loose. I tried that and worked for me but my problem was power steering cylinder was in the way, couldn't slide bolt out because head was facing fwd.

Also may want to loosen tranny cross member bolts a little to help.

The curse dictionnary should help you.

I change them in place and it was a real pain. And now, I have to do it all again because my brand new rubber support separated.

What I finally did to get the bolt through was to put another bolt from the other side (it run through a lot easier). It serve as a guide and the bolt went in with a little persuation.

Good luck

Stephan

I ended up purchasing the GM motor mounts, they are pricey but they fit like the originals.

Have you loosened the motor mount to engine bolts? If the motor mount was free to move a bit they might line up with the frame easier. Perhaps a small drift would help you align the mounts initially.

The motor mount to engine bolts are all loose and when I lift up on the block, the mounts can be manipulated by hand a bit.

Has anyone here ever experienced a warped mount?

These mounts bolted nice and flush to the block before dropping the engine so ther e was no indication that there might be a problem there.

Mark,

I purchased a set of mounts from one of the Corvette vendors and they were the wrong size. I believe their supplier provided them with the incorrect units. Turned out their units were the same brand as Auto Zone sells, and when I checked the AZ web site I found the PN I had was not for Corvettes.

The tip off was that the gap between the "ears" of the motor mount was about 1/4" too large for where the mounts attach to the frame. This would have allowed the engine to "walk around" - not a good thing!

I purchased the GM replacement mounts. They cost a LOT more but they look identical to the original MM and they fit correctly. I would not be surprised that a non GM mount was binding.

In any case I think I would AVOID forcing a MM to fit. Any undue stress will likely cause a premature failure of the MM, and the mount would likely transmit more engine vibration.

Did the bolts slip easily out of the MM when the engine was initially removed?

The old bolts came right out. The new mounts are not GM. I picked them up at a local auto parts store. Hmmmmmm. Gonna give em one more try tonite. If it is a no-go, I'll order the GMs tomorrow. Thanks.
