One is for 4-speeds from 68-70 and the other for 4-speeds from 71-80.
What changed?!?! The Muncie didn't and the Borg Warner was pretty much identical to the Muncie. The rear end didn't change until the late 70s. I'm stumped at what the differences could be. And why a different shaft for the automatics? Hmmm.... Tranny length I'm guessing.
Re: Driveshaft Differences Between Years? (ddecart)
There are definitely a few changes. Redvetracr clued me in to these. I swapped a ST-10 M20 from a 74 into my 69 that had an M21 Muncie. After I swapped I needed a driveshaft that was 3/4" shorter and took a wider u-joint to work with the ST-10 rear yoke. I think you have to be careful with differences between both the Muncie and ST-10 (input and output splines and total trans length), and also the M20 and M21 from various years.
Well..the shaft I have now is messed up already. My trans is pre-69. My yoke is correct for '69. My shaft takes a u-joint that doesnt match the yoke (front and rear). I know it's incorrect, but I don't know what to look for.
