looking for confirmation, on the topic of lean and rich. THis ,to my understanding is a referance to the air being mixed with fuel . when lean you don't have enough air, so you have too much fuel passing, therefore a heavy gas fumes. and if you are rich you have too much air. my cab fills up with heavy gas fumes upon startup and never really leaves. even with the windows open. and on quick take off the engin seems to stammer until it gets into 3rd gear and high speeds ( 55 ) stock 72 with 350 dwell and timing set to factory. running stock carb. any thing I can try ???? [IMG][/IMG] [IMG][/IMG]
You have them backwards, lean is too little fuel (too much air) and rich is too much fuel (too little air). Since air is pretty much a constant you need to adj your fuel delivery to match your air intake. Your vapor return system might not be funtioning properly (have a hole in the lines) or might be unhooked with no cap on it.
hey i have fumes too. everything in my car is stock just like chartier. what hoses were you talking about and what canister? i have no idea where these would be.
Ok i think this is a black plastic (ABS) round tank on the drivers side. with tank line in , carb line in. port out on bottom. anyway does anybody know how to clean out this tank? the Ecklers people say this is discontinued and they don't have any idea of what else to do. however it stands to reason that you still need it to pass gas fumes right?
Mine is unhooked and I capped the line leading back. I run mine without a vented gas cap but others say you needed a vented one to run without it.
Could be that you do need a vented cap, but you may have a vented tank anyhow... I just dropped my tank and the gasket for the filler neck is made from cork and was completely shot and leaking... My guess is that if you haven't replaced the filler neck gasket, it's shot.
Very well could be the self venting option. Seems I used to get a lot os fume smell when I topped it off so I tend to fill it 7/8 plus it tends to splash out when it gets close to the top.
My stock tank leaked gas via pinholes located just above the tank support. It would only smell when the car was running. I wouldn't even have known there was a leak but one day I was working under the car and i noticed the anti squeek pad above the support was wet.
