Default circlip problem on my 1975 vette

hope someone can help. I put my car up on an underbody hoist and the left hand axle moved out of the diff about half an inch.Pulled it down, found the circlip in the sump, replaced it and new bearings, tested, all well then put it back on the hoist and it happened again. Its at the workshop and they want to pull it down again but I need more info. Please offer advice urgently

Usually (like mine) the inside end of the yoke wears down by rubbing on the center pin. After 30 yrs of rubbing, the end wore down enough that the groove (that the circlip seats into) had been all but erased.

Did yours still have a groove about 1/4 inch from the inside end - for the clip to seat into ? You may need new side yokes. I did.

As Dave said, you need new yokes. Get the rebuilt ones with the hardened tips. Check your pinion bearings for pitting too.
