Re: How much should a routine shock installation cost? (hudman)
It's not a bad job to do yourself. I put gas on the front and air on the rear, rides firmer and no pipe drag. I spoent about $100 to $120 total on shocks and maybe 2 hours in time. Depending on what shock you get figure $25 a shock to install on top of inflated price for each shock.

If you would rather just get it done at a shop, I had Monroe Sens-a-matic's put on all the way around, about a week ago, for $275 with a lifetime warrenty.
Re: How much should a routine shock installation cost? (hudman)
It really is a simple job to do yourself. Took me no more than an hour and a half w/ air tools, having never done it before. When I was in the shop, they came out easy as pie.
I recommend, when you're putting the rears back in, to put the top in, then jack the bottom of the shock up till you put it on the mount.
IMO, the hardest part is getting the top shock nut(on the front) to tighten. That's a pain in the butt!
Re: How much should a routine shock installation cost? (hudman)
Cost of shocks plus 1 hour labor ($70) would be my guess. However, this is really a DIY job, and you don't pay an inflated price for the shocks at a retail establishment.
One caution, on the rear shocks, the lockwasher goes under the HEAD of the bolt. With the lockwasher next to the NUT, it may rub against the body.
Always a good idea to have a GM Corvette Shop Manual, specific to your year car, for reference.
Re: How much should a routine shock installation cost? (hudman)
As others have said, it's not that difficult a job to do yourself. If they have never been changed, you might encounter frozen bolts but odds are that you won't have any big problems. The shop I worked at charged $8 per if bought from us, $15 per for carry ins. Seeing that you are asking about cost, I'd assume that money is an issue. I don't know how much you get an hour for your work but, even if it takes you a lot longer than it would a pro, you can probably do it yourself in less time than it would take you to earn the same amount of money at work.
