what would be the least expensive way to increase horsepower on a 77 vette? I'm a first time owner of a vette and this set me back a few $$. So i'm looking for the most affordable way to increase H.P
these are some tips I recently got from the pros here.
First, make sure it is in good tune. Check out Lar's Qjet tuning and Timing recurve papers on corvette faq.
Once those are taken care of (rejetting if necessary should be 20-25 bucks WITH the gasket kit. I think Lars sells the recurve kits for $45. His contact info is in the paper)
The next tip I got was to go with a better cam. I think the consensus here is that L48's benefit from them.. I didn't see what motor you have. Also, better exhaust. Check out Ganey's exhaust thread on corvette faq. hope this helps, I'm kinda in the same boat. I want to get the basics done first. I've seem motors with manifolds, headers, better carb...etc running 1/4 mile times not much faster than mine, and my Vette is almost all stock. So before I invest a lot of dough that won't make much difference, I asked the pro's here. I love making power from something that doesn't look like anything special. I'm dreaming of a crate motor someday and already figuring out how to make the stock aircleaner and painting the valve covers the stock color to disguise it. heheheh
I'd suggest against a cam swap because pulling all the crap out from in front of the engine isn't always worth it, might as well pull the engine and put in a performance one instead.
Headers, true dual exhaust, new intake manifold, tune the carb, recurve the distributor. That'd be the best start. From there you could put different heads with small chambers on to boost the compression ratio and then put on 1.6 roller rockers to get some more lift out of the cam.
