i believe austin martin has a 6 speed automatic transmission, the chevy guy must of thought a guy with a four hundred thousand dollar car was going to change the trans seal himself and needed to call a chevy garage for the parts.
One time i was training a new guy at pep boys and i sent him to a computer just to see if he could look something up, acting like a customer i just said "i need some spark plugs"
He goes "how many?" right there i was thinking wtf? the computer will tell you how many is needed in so many places.
But anyway i tell him 8. he asks my make and model and i tell him, then he goes "v-6 or v-8"? for one it was for my vette, which have never had a v-6 standard. i had to just stare at him for a good minute, then he finally goes "what?" annoyed.
I just said "v-8". Then he shoots me a glance like "ok thats all i wanted to know a-hole". Somehow he looked up plugs for a pontiac 400 engine too.
He got fired a week later because an ignorant customer asked him how to add auto trans fluid, he was kind of a smart butt so he went out to show him, and was nice enough to top his coolant tank off with auto trans fluid, and interestingly enough topped the auto trans off with antifreeze. I just happend to be in the parking lot and noticed what he was doing, we had to get the car into the shop and drain and flush everything. I actually had to do that myself, because the grease monkeys back there had little more brains than that guy.

Re: Some People [Rant/Funny] (RJR99SS)
used to be when you said 4 speed it meant manual only - now that's not the case. Same with 5 speed - I think BMW or Mercedes has a 5 speed auto with the auto-stick shifting system.
Better ask the questions instead of getting the wrong part. That's the difference between working with a dealer instead of Pep-Boys.
