Default Need tire size suggestions.......

I put new BFG Radial T/A's (225/70R15) on the front of my vette last year, and plan to replace the rear's soon. But, I would like to go a little wider than a 225 tire. What are my options? I don't want it rub or stick out past the fender flares, in other words what is the biggest I can go without any chance of a problem? Thanks in advance

I'm running a P255 60R15 all the way around, with no problem. I think a P255 is about as wide as you can run, without modifications, or the tires sticking out.

I currently have 245/60-15s (front & back) with no clearance problems.

255/60s are supposed to fit, but some have clearance problems with the parking brake cable bracket. I'm going to try 255s soon and if the bracket is too close I'll either grind it down or have a shop move it over (they can pull it and weld it) until it clears.

Others have gone much bigger than that, but I'm not sure what mods they've had to make.

Jerry, I put P255/60R15's all the way around with stock trailing arms. P255's were the option for the 81' year..guess the performance option, versus the P225/70R15. Have good clearance with no rubbing...hope this helps! :)

" I think I'm going to go with the 255/70R15 on the rear "

Do you mean 255/60R15 ?

1. 225 * .7 = 157.5
2. 255 * .6 = 153.0
3. 255 * .7 = 178.5

1 & 2 are about the same height sidewall.

I don't know if anyone is running 3 (that's about 2" taller than stock) or if there would be clearance problems with it.

The 255/60 is the same size sidewall as the 225/70

I have 255/60VR15 on all four corners of my '77. I went with Pirelli Scorpion Zero's. No problem with rubbing and they look good on the car.

I have them on my stock Rally wheels

The 1st number is the tread width in millimeters, the 2nd number is the sidewall height as a percentage of tread width

Take a look at my spreadsheet to see what tires are available: http://67.116.80.82/Vette/Files/TireRackTires2003.xls

I recommend the 245/50-15 Dunlop Sport 8000 for performance. But, if you want an economical long lasting tire that looks good then the BFGoodrich Radial T/A in a 255/60-15 is my choice.

 The percentage was what I didn't understand, I thought that all 70 sidewall's were the same, etc.

That should work... I had 275/60R15's on my 69' (sold).. The tires came pretty close to the e-brake bracket.. but other than that - there were no problems...
