Today when i was going to the dragstrip and watch my friend do some runs(He did manage a 9.79 in the 1/4 in his GMBB LeMans  ).I was cruising down the highway doing about 80Mph and suddenly there was a sound i didnt hear before,so i put it in neutral, checked the gages and they all read OK.Then i checked in the rearview mirror and there was a big smoketrail behind me.I shut her down and coasted to the shoulder and stopped.Smoke everywhere.A nice smell of burnt oil was seeping in to the car.Poped the hood and looked at the pass side fenderwell, and theres oil everywhere.Theres even oil around the dist and intake... :( .Looked at he mess and called a flatbed ..Got it to the garage and begun to tear it down.I begun to drain the radiator and all i got out was 2 gallons of fluid..Hmmm..Pulled the header and removed the oilsrick and a fountain of water and oil filled the garagefloor..Removed everything else and so on..This is what i`ve found..
Nr:4 cylinder wall has two three inch cracks in it.The piston is cracked and a chunk of it is missing.Theres no sign of it bouncing around in there and the head and valves has no sign of it bouncing around, probably just blew it out right away,.Theres no scratch marks on the cylinder walls like it would wedge it self inbetween the piston and wall...Oh well...Its just money.. :skep:
So if theres anyone who feel like sending me a good 454 block, let me know and i`ll IM you my adress :jester

talk about a shipping charge !!
I sent some exhaust manifolds to the U.K. Shipping was $118, and now they want another $45 for customs after the fact. All this for a pair of $50 manifolds.
I would hate to think of the charge for a full big block !
Ouch!! That hurts to hear the damage. Was the piston part small enough that it could have gotten sucked out the exhaust valve? I know what it feels like to have your engine break as the last pass(9.72 @ 142) I had in a doorslammer had the timing gears break in the lights. Pretty sickening when the engine is turning 7000RPM's and the valves quit moving. It sucked all the timing gear pieces through the whole engine and the Ross 13:1 Aluminum pistons had huge indentions from the valves. I threw the short block away and sold the car. A good reason to NOT ever run timing gears... roller chain only.
I`ll be measuring the bore on the ngine tomorrow. The former owner said it was .030,but that should leave plenty of material left. What could cause a cylinderwall collaps? :mad
man, that new GM crate engine begins to look really good :D
Ohh,I forgot one thing. While i was waiting for the towtruck a C4 stopped and asked if i needed help, that has never happend before when i had my Volvos..Corvette people are nice people, mostly

Sorry to hear about the motor. Even if the bore is +.030", boring the motor over to .060" isn't going to help anything if it is cracked. So it's just one cylinder that has a crack in it? You could look into having that cylinder sleeved. It may be worth it just to sleeve the one cylinder but you'll have to decide that for yourself. Sleeving one cylinder isn't bad....if more than one cylinder needs sleeved then it's a paper weight in my book.
I picked my 454 block up for $250 + $100 shipping. It was a 2 bolt standard bore block that could have remained a standard bore....but I wanted the extra cubic inches of boring it over .060". Of course that was shipped from one U.S. state to another, I would imagine it would be a little more expensive to ship overseas. Keep us posted with what you decide.
A guy here had his Mustank on a dyno and at 730 hp his harmonic balancer went flying across the floor-he coulda been kilt. His entire engine was split right down the middle-along with the cam and crank.
Damn I am sorry to hear that BB...............Were you revving the engine hard?? I am sorry to hear that...........I am still hinting for a center grill for ya. Just drop a 502 crate motor in ..........Problem solved :hurray: :reddevil

:( Ooooh that's bad news dude. And shipping a big block is gonn'a hurt too.:cuss But motor build-ups are fun and you'll get to fix all shortcomings from the last try with go faster goodies. ;)
