Default Need temporary fix for splitting fiberglass

The fiberglass door skin is splitting and seperating at the lower inside edge of my driver door (from one end to the other). I do not want to redo this entire door yet and was hoping to implement a temporary fix to re-attach it. If I am carefull I think this could be done without effecting the outside appearance of the door which looks fine. Maybe just a little prep, some resin with a few clamps until it sets and a little touch up paint would hold it for a while? Anybody good with this? Thanks, Tom

You can put a little fiberglass patch on it from the inside. If you take your time and do it right you can make it more than a temporary fix. What's really important though is that you find out why there is a crack there. Is the door not aligned correctly? is it hitting something when closing? You cant just fix the crack, you also have to fix the cause of the crack. (if there is one)

I have not had to reskin a door yet, but I think I would use a bonding adhesive rather than resin. Hopefully someone will respond that has been down this road. Depending on how much it has seperated, clean the contact area as good as you can. Mix and apply a good coat of adhesive, then clamp the area using a wood block (inside and out) that covers most of of the repair length. This should prevent uneven areas that show up in your pain. Once dry, remove the clamps and sand the bottom edge back to original.

Good Luck!
