1980 Horn Kit
Just got a horn kit for a 1980 but don't think I have it installed right as there is not any "spring" action and horn is still not working.
When I took it apart, parts came flying off and there were multiple shims (3) and don't think it was put together right before either.
It appears that the little spring loaded pin is pressed all the way into its housing, which doesn't make sense to me.
Anybody have any ideas ???? :smash:

The blowup picture from the AIM book may help. You can go to http://www.corvettefaq.com and look under Steering. Download Tilt & Telescoping77-82 Steering Wheel and Horn Parts. That picture pretty well shows the order in which all the parts need to go to gether.

Azswede, here's a big pic of what the horn contact is supposed to look like.
The three shims I think you are talking about make up the outter most ring with the three screws through it. The rings just get stacked together. The horn contact spring should be assembled with the spring in the hole first, then put the "T" shaped metal contact on top of the spring with the top of the "T" inwards, then there should be a little plastic holder that gets pushed over the metal "T" contact and turned to lock into the column (I believe it's turned clockwise to lock).
I hope this helps. If you can't figure it out, let me know and I'll dismantle mine a little more and take some pics. I know when I did this all the photocopied diagrams I had were difficult to follow.
