Finally gutted the interior except can't seem to get the dash to budge, all visable screws removed, only thing left is steering column. Also, anyone out there removed their windshields without breaking them!? any help is appreciated. Can't wait to get the windshield frame repaired so I can get serious with the interior work.
Assuming this is for the 1979 mentioned in your profile . . .
I can't comment on the windshield removal, but for the dash, in addition to the screws, I think it's clipped in at two points on the underside of the top part by the bottom of the windshield. Look for those and see if that does the trick.
Re: Windshield and dash removal...HELP (wombvette)
Pay to have the windshield removed and put back in.
In order to remove the dash pad, you have to remove the lower right pad (5 screws), undo the screws attaching the the center console and lower left hand dash pad (5 screws), remove the windshield trim and the 1 screw holding the dash pad in place.
I removed the dash and windshield on my 69. I used a windshield wire saw from NAPA. After removing the trim I used an awl to poke a hole in the urethane and had a helper on one side to help with the sawing action. Put a piece of cardboard on the dash to protect it. Use some suction cups to remove it. I'm welding in new corners now.

I used a wire like GTR did. Worked pretty good. I did crack mine taking it off. The stock glass is pretty thin. They tend to break at the cruves on each side. Just dont lift the glass from side to side or put ANY force on it. It took suprisingly little force to crack it. Ahhh well... it was pitted pretty bad anyways, but I hate busting original parts
On my 78, there are two tabs in the corners against the windshield/A posts that must be bent up in order to be able to sneak the dash out. I decided to leave mine in and work around it.
Removing windshields without breaking them is pretty difficult. It can be done, but it's kind of a gamble since they break so easily. You can use the wire saw, or get a windshield knife to cut the seal between the windshield and the frame. Then out it comes. If your glass is pitted at all it may be a good time to consider spending the $100 and getting a new windshield to put in and not worrying about breaking it. When you get to install I'll post my speach about that and the windshield spacers and all. :hat
I have been planning on removing my windshield and doing some interior cleanup also. Go ahead and give me your two cents on the spacers and other tips on the install.
thanks guys. Haven't had the chance to look into the dash removal more thoroughly, maybe this weekend. As for the glass removal, I called btwn 10-15 auto glass companies and NO ONE would remove it for fear of breaking it. The one guy who would wanted $180 to remove and another $160 to replace. Yeah, just because its a Vette don't mean I'm rich  Two others want me bring the car to to them which means it must be trailered so breaking the sucker might be the cheapest route to take; just want the original glass, something has to remain original :D

Yeah, thats the problem I'm running into. The corner tabs of the dash top where the windshield, frame and dash intersect. can't seem to wiggle it up and out. Does this require removal of the steering column or what, I don't want to damage the dash...too damn expensive to replace.
