Re: lifting body off the frame?? (chicken's73sting)
I used RV leveling jacks... they are sold in pairs, I bought two pairs and bolted 12x12x2's on top and bottom. they will lift the floor pan just over 2ft from the ground. I estimate the body is a good 10-12 inches off the frame rail with the car resting on its wheels on... my frame is on jack stands and I have 8-9 inches of clearance. I think they ran me about $80 per pair, maybe less.

It's a fair amount of work, just disconnecting everything to get ready to lift.
It's definitely not a 1 day deal. Not even a weekend project. Pops is gonna know.
But, the leveling jacks are a pretty good idea. I've also seen 'farm' jacks
used on the outer edge of the rocker channel. This way, the vette still takes
the same area - just a little higher.
Beware that yo uare opening a can of worms, here. While-I'm-at-it will hit
you and soon it will be next summer. (OK - that's MY story - but it happens)
I suspend mine fron the garage 'ceiling' (exposed floor joists) with a cable
puller and nylon tie-down straps. I posted in someone elses thread before -
how I did it. A thorough search in the archives should uncover lots of ideas.
Re: lifting body off the frame?? (chicken's73sting)
10 body bolts, tranny is usually OK for two feet, but other things (steering, etc) are required. Beware- I had to replace 5 of the eight frame mounting brackets due to rust, and the last one (yeah, it's always the last one!) had to be cut off with a torch. Softened the fiberglas some, but it didn't catch fire. Nuff said- it's not a quickie job.
