Aftermarket tach - easy hookup?

Aftermarket tach - easy hookup?
The tach doesn't work in my 76 and I've read the problem is usually that the board is cracked. I don't want to go thru pulling the dash at this time but I would like to have an operating tach. I was thinking of hanging a tach along the side of the center console/guages. Are the aftermarket tachs difficult to hookup? Any recommendations on which kind to get?

The wiring is a piece of cake. Just follow the directions provided. Personnaly, I like Autometer products. Have not found any fault with them yet.

Easy Install. I recently put an aftermarket tach in my 69 cause the dash unit doesn't work. I had four wires.
1. to the coil
2. to ground (hooked mint to neg side of battery)
3. to fuse box (unused connector)
4. to light switch)
works like a charm.

I don't want to go thru pulling the dash at this time but I would like to have an operating tach.
It's a pain in the butt. Wanna know what's worse? When you rip everything out, get your tach repaired FAIL TO TEST PRIOR TO RE INSTALL, then find out the thing still doesn't work .... AFTER it's installed :banghead: I'm going to swing one off my steering column into the space in front of the existing tach face, till I build the motivation to do it all again.
