Last fall on my next to last drive I sprung a leak in steering system and replaced
both cylinder and valve. Got them from Eklers I think and they were rebuilt.
This year it doesn't seem the same. It goes down the road ok but on turning
a corner it seems to sometimes lose power and steering wheel jerks a bit but
it's only momentary. Also just sitting in driveway it doesn't turn smoothly. Pump
isn't old and belts ain't slipping. Any thoughts on problem? Steve
Jim,
According to manuel, it's adjusted properly when shaft can be moved in and out
by hand with engine running and disconnected of course. It appears to be power steering but it just isn't smooth. It doesn't pull one way or the other and car is
aligned perfectly. May try another pump, don't want to replace valve again, pita.
Thanks for the faq address, you've been busy typing huh? Steve
Had the same symtoms on my 78'. Hate to tell you this, but it was a bad valve. Bought a remanufactured unit, and it worked great steering wise then started to leak after about a year. Just bought a NEW one, no more reman crap.
Just a heads up on PS valves.... A bunch have been recalled just two weeks ago, seems they have been getting a lot of complaints. I would call your supplier and ask them about it, I just went through that whole ordeal.
Was the recalled valve a reman unit or new? I assume all the reman parts come from the same supplier regardless of which Vette parts house you buy it from.
Duke94,Vettz,
Thanks for the heads up. I should know better than to buy reman. for car
that has new available. Dumb! I tried making adjustment on valve and the spot
I had it was correct setting. Shoulda just bought a rebuild kit for my original.
I still have it, have been procrastinating on shipping it back, might just rebuild
and call purchase of valve part of my learning by mistake syndrome. After 59.5
years I still have it and I don't think there is any cure. Steve
