About two weeks ago I began to notice a little posi clutch chatter at start up if I was going to make a turn. I went to the lacal Chevy dealer and bought a small bottle of additive, put it in and no more Chatter. About two years ago when I changed the yokes I put in new posi lube and ONE bottle of additive because the dealer only had one in stock. No chatter until about two weeks ago. For those of you unfamiliar with this stuff, it is the GM additive required for corvette posi-traction differentials. They can become almost undrivable without it. They hop, jerk, snap and pop at very slow speeds as you go around a slight curve. I have seen them so bad that you would swear a differetial Overhaul is needed but the additive fixes it.
Have you always used the GM product? I see a lot of other brands of posi additives at the parts stores. They claim to meet GM specs., but are they really the same, are usable? It's certainly more convenient than going to the Chev dealer, but I wonder if anyone has any comments on the non-GM additives.

Re: GM posi additive... Amazing stuff. (rponfick)
I have only used the GM stuff, it's all my father used and therefore all I have ever seen work.
A posi is too expensive and too much of a pain to rebuild for me to try other brands that may or may not work. I am too chicken to go find out for my own. I do know this much though, that stuff has an odor that will not leave for weeks !!
I tried Sta-Lube's ( from Pep Boys) posi oil and their additive in another corvette I had a few years ago. It seemed to work real good. I was having trouble with chatter then too. Actually for me it's easier to get the additive at the dealer.
