Default Bought Some New Heads :)

I've started putting all of my money towards making my current motor an 8-71 blower motor. I've been on the lookout for a nice set of heads and found them last night on eBay :) .

The heads I purchased are Pro Topline Heads ( http://www.procylinderheads.com ). The heads are cast iron and have 119cc combustion chambers, 360cc intake runners, .250" raised exhaust ports, 2.30" intake valves and 1.88" exhaust valves.

I picked both heads up for $600 + $60 shipping! Taking into consideration the heads are brand new I think I got a good deal. Of course the heads are bare but still $600 was a great deal, and the heads seem to have good flow numbers.

Now I need to start saving for the most expensive part of the motor, the 8-71 blower.

bence13_33 bought raised port heads? Can't be! Somebody has obviously stolen Shane's account, I'll let the forum police know... :D

I thought so too. I wasn't 100% sure though. So I would like to thank John (69NOXRatt) and Norval. Both John and Norval told me to go for them at that price.

Joe:
No don't call the police it's a false alarm, I purchased them myself. I know, I know. I swore at them up and down because of the Hooker side pipes. But when push came to shove it's tough to find a standard exhaust port head that will outflow a raised exhaust port head (and it seems like every aftermarket head these days has raised exhaust ports except a select few). I'm going to cut them and weld them myself. It doesn't need to be pretty, it just needs to go fast :D . Not a big deal anyway, I'll cut them and weld them then spray them down with the normal high temperature black paint and nobody will be the wiser :) .

Corey:
I guess 360cc intake runners is kinda big huh? :) When I spoke with Norval a while back we talked about intake runner size. He suggested going with the biggest heads I could afford. The reason being is that port velocity is not a concern with a blower motor, unlike with a naturally aspirated motor. I'd like to send them off to have some porting done, but we'll see how the pocket book is looking whenever everything is purchased for the setup.

I agree you don't have to worry about sacrificing low end torque when you're running a 8-71. :D

8-71? Why don't you grow a set and go with the 14-71. :p:

Have fun welding those pipes. I ended up paying about $1K to get my headers modified to fit my heads. I would have spent that much on a welder and materials, and the headers look like they came that way.

Sweet deal man.

Nice heads there youngster

Something makes me think those are a .600 raised runner but it's been a year since I had a set of those. Does not matter if you are reworking the headers though. I do think you will need to run roller springs-roller cam on them if memory serves correct there are not any solid flat tappet springs that will set up correctly,,could be wrong though. Adjustable pushrods will be in order to get correct lenght when ordering new will be mandatory .I think and they will probably be the last part ordered when you build the new motor.

For more info on how these heads have been set up in the past in terms of using a solid lifter cam you might could call Jeff @ 1-877-776-4323 then in turn contact Ultradyne to see what springs they offer if a flat tappet cam is what you still want to use.

Good luck and have fun with it and don't whack the throttle with small animals around,,it will suck them in the blower motor :) Stops up the mufflers :p:

I have seen the flow numbers on these heads and they are good. As for the 360cc intakes I ran 340 on a normal aspirated engine and it was a dog below 5000 where it would suddenly explode right up to 7500.
When I went blown those same heads suddenly worked from idle on up. No lack of torque so I wouldn't worry about port velocity at low rpm.
Nice heads Shane.

Steve:
My grandfather has both a tig and a mig welder so finding a welder is not a problem. It's just going to be my time and the cost of materials. I'm sure I fix them up to look respectable enough ;) .

Curtis:
It's great to hear from you again. The heads may very well have a .600" raised exhaust port. The guy I am purchasing them from said that they were .250" so maybe he was misinformed. I did happen to see something on their sight that mentioned the suggested use of a roller cam and roller springs. Thanks for Jeff's phone number I'll be sure to give him a buzz. After I have spoken with Jeff I'll drop Harold a line at Ultradyne and see what he has to offer. Thanks again for the info Curtis.

Looks like you got a good deal. No such thing as too much head...just not enough motor!!

8-71's make up for little things like that! :D

You're going to have fun!

I was going to say valves, springs and a few gaskets aren't much money. So why wait for a blower!:)

But then I started thinking. Those exhaust ports probably need 2 - 2 1/4 header pipes.

I can't imagine the animal that you might own 3-5 years from now if you keep up this rate of mods.
