Default Steering rebuild kit

I bought a steering rebuild kit from Corvette America, upper and lower ball-joints, idler arm, tie rod ends, new seals..... Will I need to remove the springs to replace the ball-joints? My Haynes manual doesn't seem to describe the process very well.

The uppers can be changed without removing the spring,although the upper ball joints don't wear out too much. I do replace them if I have the arms out anyway. The lowers can be done too but you'll have to support the lower control arm very securely. I have drilled out the rivets and replaced them with the springs in but if you're going to rebuild the front end why not replace the springs too? It will be safer once you the spring out-which you have to do to replace the bushing anyway. Check with the GM manuals to get a better idea of what it's all about.

Sounds like I should upgrade the springs while I'm at it. I noticed that my drivers side spring has a rubber spacer between the front coils. What type of coils to you suggest? I like to find some that will work well with a composite rear spring as a system. What do you guys suggest?

BTW, I have not upgraded the rear suspension yet.
