what is the best thermostat for my crossfire. Right now I have a 195 and my tempture runs about 225. should I go down to a 180 or lower. do you think this will affect proformance.
It believe you need the higher temperature to get the EFI into closed loop mode. Mine used to run up to 220 frequently until I put in a Dewitt package of aluminum radiator and twin Spal fans.
If you are already running above the thermostat opening temp, then a lower temp thermostat won't change anything. You stat is already opening at 195, yet the engine is running up to 225. Opening it earlier won't keep the temperature from continuing to climb, as it won't be open any wider and the flow will be the same. You have to improve the heat transfer. Maybe your radiator is clogged or water pump or fan are malfunctioning.

:iagree: Can you explain this to the other 10,000 people that don't understand that logic?

My example. I'm using a 180 t-stat, and my Spal fans are set to go on at 200 and off at 190.
While cruising I can watch the temp gauge move from 180 to 185 to 180 on and on. The Dewitts radiator wants to cool the engine lower than the t-stat allows. In stop light traffic it does climb up.

Sure: Tell them that the T-stat rating is for MINIMUM normal operating temps. I with a 180 in, the car will run at that minimum once it is warmed up.
L79Vette; My high flow water pump cooled mine down. I was running at 210-215 around town, 230+ on the highway. Now I am at 160-170 (stat is out right now until I replace expansion tank, had air sucking issues) and maybe 190 on the highway at 3500rpm in 95 degree heat.
Also check your fan clutch. With the engine off, and hot, it should be hard to turn by hand.
As others said you can't get your overheating problem down with just a lower T-Stat. You could try a high flow T-Stat. But no matter what you do it should bring the coolant temp up to your crossfire operating temp (I don't know what that is) as soon as possible, and then open up as wide as possible after that to be sure that your computer doesn't add a rich condition due to the engine being too cold.
