I am replacing the Q-Jet on my 72 with a 650 Speed Demon. I knew that the Q-Jet accelerator bracket would not fit the Demon but I thought that I could simply order the appropriate bracket. Wrong. No one seems to have a bracket that fits the Demon and interfaces with the 72 accelerator cable.
The 72 accelerator cable is round with a round steel sleeved end that is ~1/4" to 5/16" in diameter by ~ 1 1/2" long. It does not have the large square end that the later model cars have.
Has anyone already been through this issue and found the solution? I would appreciate any help that I can get. Thanks.
I managed to mod my Qjet bracket for the 650 Speed Demon, I had to add a brace from the Valve cover bolt though. Not the prettiest, but it works :D
I must have a look at the Summit stuff and see what fits the Demon
Re: Accelerator Cable Bracket Help (Graemeinvette)
Just had a look at Summit, they have them to fit Eddlebrock and Holley but nothing Demon specific  Do the Holley or Eddlebrock fit ?
Thanks everyone for the response. The problem has not been one of not finding a bracket but finding a bracket that will clamp the round accelerator cable on the 72 and position itself correctly on the Demon mounting flange - - or even on the Performer manifold. So, I am still looking.
I just had to do the exact same thing. the 24 inch universal throttle cable from lokar will do the trick, you will also need their throttle cable bracket which mounts to the rear carb stud. they have a clevis type end on the throttle cable on the pedal end which is supposed to fit the Lokar pedal, but you can leave it on and it will act as the stop for the cable at pedal rod. i had to use a couple of washers on the penetration through the firewall since the OEM hole is a little larger than the lokar but it works perfect. you will need to measure and cut the sleeve to length according to their instructions, but i can now get WOT which i was unable to get trying to use two different GM type throttle brackets and trying to use the original cable, i spent a week trying not to change the cable, but.... i think the whole set up cable and bracket was about $50. i have pics but would need instructions on how to post them if you are interested. the Lokar part numbers are TC-1000U for the cable(non-steel braid) and SRK-4000 for the bracket. i guess i should have mentioned at the beggining of the post, you have to change your throttle cable, but the whole swap only took about an hour.
HWY 9 - '69 thanks for the information. I guess that I am getting a little slow. It has taken me about two weeks to arrive at the same conclusion that you did. Replace the cable with something that fits the available brackets. I appreciate your providing the Lokar part numbers. I don't know if I will use the Lokar cable or just buy a somewhat later model Vette cable but if I go with Lokar, I'll follow your lead. I'll make that decision after I remove the existing cable. Again, Thanks.
No problem, if you want to check out the Lokar stuff, http://www.lokar.com and they have good pictures that you can look up from the part numbers. Yea aint it fun working upsidedown under the dash!!! Good luck. You should be happy with the speed demon, I've got a little over 800 miles on the new engine and am very happy with the carb.
