Stewart Components recommends tap water and rust inhibitor from Prestone or Zerex for non-freezing climates. I know in Jax during the winter you might have several days when freezing might be a concern. For freezing climates they recommend the 50/50 antifreeze/water mix.

Yep, and I absolutely agree with that for that climate.
But around here, we may see about 10 days a year below 30 degrees. But we see close to 150 days above 90 degrees. More water works better round here. :thumbs:

LA--why green instead of red? I just recently flushed my system & put in the red because I was under the impression it protected better--

JB, I wondered the same thing till about a month ago. I was getting ready to change the coolant in my 94 and wondered what to go with, so I looked around here in the C-4 tech and general sections. C-4 guys know a little about this because GM switched from green to red in the 96 production year. Here what I read:
Red coolant put in a system with ANY green left in may cause geling and or clogging.
Green system should be kept green. Red systems should be kept red.
Red coolant put in a Green system is only good for 2 years tops, just like the green.
Red, if not mixed properly at 50/50 will cause havoc in the system.
It was enough for me to go back with green in my 94. Don't know how absolutley true the above info is, I have even had professionals in the auto repair industry argue both sides. The heck with it, I stuck with green.

I'm running red(DexCool). the recommendation from the parts manager at the local Chevy Dealer was to mix 1 gallon Dexcool and the rest water. he said that in higher concentrations they have noticed problems with "jelling" in some intake manifolds. I do live in a mild climate though where i might only have to deal with freezing temps 2 or 3 days a year.
