Sound Completely Different than ANY L48,L81 or L83.

Just listen to the engine idle beside an L48 and it's obvious.
Not sure what your point is, but L-82's sound different because they have a bigger cam. Nothing you mentioned has any effect on the sound.

And L-82's didn't have "pink rods". That was LT-1's.

forged pistons could have a little piston slap at start up and floating wrist pins could also make more noise at times. and the 71 - 73 LT-1 short block was identical to the L-82 short block except the camshaft.
it did sound different than the base engine. mostly when cold.

Yes, most is identical.

I saw it when I rebuilt my '70 LT-1. It has pink rods. L-82's didn't.

The LT-1 did indeed have forged pink rods but the difference from the L-82 forged connecting rods is minimal:

350 high performance (LT1)

large journal
forged steel
pressed pin
shot peened
heat treated
magnafluxed (known as "pink rods" due to the pink residue)

Magnafluxing and shot peened are the only difference. For the street, no real world difference.

Pink or purple they are both Forged Steel..what is difference ..none.

None that makes a rats azz worth of difference ....pink ...whoop pee .....give me a break......they are the same part.

72 is LT1 and L82 is identical bottom end parts. .......forged steel and four bolt main casting , forged crank , and all the rest .

Reminds me of an old Sesame Street episode. "These are different, these are the same." Maybe you need to revisit that one.

You are correct that the LT-1 and the L-82 are essentially the same motors on the bottom ends, especially the 71/72 Lt-1's-pretty much identical. The 70 LT-1 with 11:1 compression was really the only standout from the L-82. Most people in the know are well aware of this fact.
