Default window spring help

Could anyone suggest how to fix a power window spring that's not providing any tension. I'm convinced that's the problem but don't know what to do about it. The spring doesn't come in contact with the rivet that's supposed to provide the tension to make the window go up and down properly. Do I need to take the whole set up out again or is there an easier way? Thanks

Default Re: window spring help (webron)

I just recently rebuilt my drivers side window regulator. When I pulled the regulator out of the door the spring was non-existent - which would explain why my window would not go up without help.

As I was putting mine back together, I was unsure as to the orientation for the spring, fortunately it goes in one of two ways (actually 4 ways - but two of which are blantely wrong). In one orientation, the spring does not supply much help at the fully raised level. I recently tore apart a regulator on an older Honda, which had enough tension to hold the window closed, my Corvette did not. However, when flipping the spring to the only other feasible orientation, it was apparent the motor would not have enough power to pull the window down all the way. So I opted for the first orientation which works great.

You ask if you have to take the regulator out again or if there is an easier way. Have you rebuilt the regulator? Did you previously have it out? I don't think there is a fix, outside of replacing the spring. Bright side is that it's not that difficult of a job, just take your time.

Good Luck -David
