Default cooling question

OK I have a 80 with L-48 and I put headers and electric fans and I wanted to ask if I wrap the headers will there a heat reduction? Also will an electric water pump help cool my vette?

Header wrap isn't good for the headers. They can crack, especially at the welds, if they can't dissipate the heat. Are you having overheating problems?

Thermal wrap will reduce engine bay heat but will also decrease the life of your headers due to thermal fatigue of the the metal and welds.
If your problem is engine temp, its not headers but something in the cooling system.
If your problem is cockpit heat, headers are part of the problem......

Header wrap is bad to headers, as others have said. You can run it on the exhaust pipes, but again that will make them not last as long.

Electric water pumps are usually for short distances such as track racing and not made for driving.

Best bet is a set of good thermal coated headers and some heat shielding on the inside and outside of the firewall and floor pans.

If you want to cool the engine compartment use ceramic-coated headers, I have found that the headers do not get as hot and actually cool faster than other components that don’t have anything to do with the exhaust, i.e. starter. I also installed a Edelbrock high flow aluminum water pump and the temp in my vette rarely reaches 180 and that is using the stock fan (haven’t installed my electric fans yet). Hope this helps
