when they let who ever came up with those blasted 4 clip trim rings to use them. Did he think we would never have to remove and install them again. Every time I change a tire, get a wheel alignment or balance, or like today paint my rims, its a nightmare :mad to get them back on. This time I was so careful removing them so as not to bent the clips and I still had to fight with them for a hour to get them back on. AND THEY LOOK LIKE CRAP all in and out around the rim like a wheel barrel. I am going to order a set of the other type for the 68 like I did for the 80. Worst of all tomorrow I go away for a week, my wife called me in over an hour ago ( might have got lucky) but I kept working on them, now shes sleeping and I'm on a rant to you guys :cry

Cole,

Which trim rings are you going to order? When I got my vette it had the late 70's aluminum rims with rotted tires and I decided to got back to the rallys. I bought the set from Ecklers, but decided I was not going to pay the premium price for the centers(with the GM logo) and went with the cheaper trim rings. What can I say, but the trim rings were just what I should have expected being chrome plated. Two cracked the chrome while installing them and the installation tabs were just as cheap as the trim rings themselves. I've always despised Ecklers for the prices they charge for GM parts, but they make sure you will not buy their aftermarket stuff because it is complete *junk*.

My own ranting....

I was thinking ofordering the SS or chrome ones with the inner complete clips, ( the last set I got new at an auto flee market in Barrie Ont.)I know these take the paint of the rims but you cannot see it when the rings are on anyways. I can not see any advantage of the 4 clip type???

I have the SS ones with the inner clips. I realize they're not exactly like the OE rings, but they fit the rim better. The problem I had with the originals with the 4 clips was that I the balancing weights were in the way of the clip.

I ranted about this a few months ago. And once you think they are on, driving down the road and you hear the unmistakeable sound of one falling off.

I took the recommendation of someone here to put a dab of silicone caulk on them clip and let it dry off the car. Then re-install afterward to give it a "rubber like grabber". Worked better on the center hub then the trim ring.

TTII's are an option, just one that will have to wait until I need new tires and replace all of it at once....
