Has anyone tried to replace the rear wheel bearing? How does the bearing come off? I am down to the bearing removal. Thanks

depends on whether or not you've got the spindle out of the TA. a couple methods which are sort of a long process to go into here in great detail! do you have a repair manual for your vette?

What exactly are you trying to do? The spindle has to be pressed or "knocked" out of the bearing housing.

This is an Auto Zone website with info. Not specific for vettes but some good general info. Me personally, I gave up the ghost and found a local expert to do my whole rear end. Good luck!

Do a search there have been a lot of posts on rear bearings. I wrote up the procedure a couple of times as has Norval and Tom454. If you need help afterwards IM me and I'll walk you through it.

I have done my own bearings. It does take a few specialty tools, and some studying, but it can be done. It certainly is more than your standard wheel bearing though. Here is one archived post with a pic of one homemade tool I used to do mine. You will also need a bearing setup tool, spindle install tool, and magnetic base dial indicator. If you aquire all of the proper tools, and are pretty handy mechanically, you can do it. http://forums.corvetteforum.com/zerothread?id=552878
