will eldebrock intake & Holley carb improve performance????
hey just got word that a guy my dad knows is selling his eldebrock intake and 600cfm DP holley carb from his vette. What will i notice if i put that on my stock L-48 (1980)? a little more torque? Will that work with my stock air cleaner? All opinions welcome. :seeya

If it's non egr maybe +10. Different air filter needed.
Do you have a manual trans.? You probably want vac. sec. if auto.
More cam needed. Change the cam at the same time & could add 50+.

well can anyone point me in a direction for a camshaft? stock L-48 with hooker headers, and 600 holley with eldebrock intake, i dont know it its a dual plane. I didnt buy it, or even look at it yet.
You will gain a little power seems to be the first upgrade people used to make when I first got on the forum, nowadays they slap in a 400HP crate motor instead

600 holley, is that small?? or is that properly sized for an L-48. The guy selling it has an 80 vette and pretty knowledgeable, I'm wondering if he chose it because a 600cfm is the best size for a stock L-48, opinions?

Sounds like my set-up... Same headers and intake. However, I have the Q-jet and plan on keeping it.
I was recommended Comp Cam's HE260H cam (PN CL12-206-2 for cam/lifter kit) by Ganey and MotorHead. I did not want to waste any money/time on upgrading the valves/springs on the L-48 heads. And with this cam, all I need is lifter and can use existing springs etc...
I was mostly after low end power, improved mileage and little bit of sound at idle.
Depending on what your goal is, you might want to go bigger on cam. But the 260H is a minimum requirement..... After the cam, intake and headers, you should see a gain of around 70 hp....

i have an edelbrock intake and holley carb on my 79 l-82, its faster than it used to be. i have an aftermarket air cleaner. how are the cams on the L-82 compared to the l-48? oh yeah, there is some formula for calculating cfm for engines. i thing the 350's came out to ~608. 600 would probably work

that was at least 2 years ago now Wayne, today if it isn't over 450 hp seems that no one want these crates anymore, and now comes the 572 to kick off the next cube war.
