Default Engine without # for ID ?

A friend of mine had an engine and people told him it 's a 454 , but other than that there is a smooth surface infront of the pass. valve cover and someone scraped of the # that suppose to tell 2bolts or 4bolts so there is no number at all . Have you seen this ? If you do please give some details.
Thankyou very much. :smash:

I have no idea what number your referring to on whether a big block is a 2 bolt or 4 bolt. The only sure way to tell is drop the pan.

In regards to the numbers in front of the valve cover on the block pad. If they block has been zero decked, those numbers come off quite easily.

To find the ci, only true way is to measure the bore and stroke. Granted he can tell people he has a 460, 482, 396 - no one is gonna be any wiser unless they measure.

With no numbers, the best you can do is look up the casting number to see how widely it was used. On a small block, it's behind the head on the driver's side. Not sure on a BB.

BB should be on the passenger side if my memory works.
