GENerator light has starting coming on.

Noticed the last few times I went for a spin that the GEN light has starting coming on. I'm in a 1978 L82. Is this an indication of a bad alternator? Thanks to anyone that has time to answer.

is it just coming on dimly? .... say, when you have electrical equipment switched on (headlamps/ wipers etc?) .... and at low revs?

Mine did the same thing in my 78 pace car. I replaced the alternator and no more trouble.

Same thing here on my 81 . Replaced the Alternator . Problem gonzo.

Thanks guys and sorry about the delay in my response. Our Email server was down and I just received notification that you guys had replied. Guess I know what I will be doing this weekend (alternator install).

First check all the connections to the alt. If OK, pull the alt and take it down to a shop/parts store that will check its output. They should be able to tell you which component is defective. Repairing/rebuilding the alt is another alternative to replacement and can save you some $$. :hurray:
