When hot my voltage sometimes spikes above 15 volts when I increase rpms suddenly. This causes my stereo amp to cut out because it wont allow more than 15 volts. Most the time it sits at 14.5 volts or lwr.
Can I control this problem by putting resistor of some kind in wire to amp?
Is internal voltage regulator easy to replace in alternator and should it be less than 15 volts at all times?
Sounds to me like your voltage regulator is taking a dump. The reason you're seeing what you do is that the VR is slow shutting off the feed to the alternator field circuit. Putting a resistor in the line isn't going to solve your problem, because it will be "resisting" all the time.
First, I would check all the connections between battery, alternator, and starter - I can't tell you how many times I've solved "wierd" problems just be cleaning the cables or tightening loose connections. Assuming all that is good, I'd try a new regulator - they're pretty cheap - and see if that solves the problem.
