The brake pedal in my '79 is, and has always been very 'soft' , and not particularly re-assuring, even though the brakes themselves seem to stop the car ok. .... is this normal for a vette of this era with power brakes??
I've bled the system numerous times, re-built the master cylinder, replaced the rear calipers etc
...... does anyone with a similar year vette also have a spongy feeling brake pedal?.... is this the norm?
Are you pressure bleeding them or taking the "gravity" approach?
I had lots of problems with a prior vette with water contamination that seemed to lead to a soft pedal. A new set of SS calipers & a correct bleeding made a world of difference. Converting the rubber lines to SS will only make a moderate difference, at best.
i always gravity bleed mine since i work by myself in the garage, i take the cap off the master cylinder and open the right rear bleeders up first, let them trickle by itself till all fluid then tighten then left rear then right front then left front and it works the best for me.
i think i'll try completely changing the brake fluid... just to make sure that there's no absorbed water or crud in the system, then bleeding the back first.
